Draw
Poker is one
of the oldest
poker games
around and
is said to
be what Texas
Holdem was
based on.
The object
of any Draw
game is simple.
To make the
best 5 Card
hand you can
after the
draws are
complete.
The number
of draws available
to you depends
entirely on
the game as
some allow
one while
others allow
multiple draws.
Rules
for Playing
Draw Poker
Draw Poker
is fairly
straightforward,
players will
pay their
blinds and
each player
is dealt five
cards which
are your hole
cards. The
difference
between draw
poker games
and Holdem,
Stud or Omaha
is that there
are no community
cards. Instead
you will be
able to select
a number of
cards from
the five in
your hand
to discard
and the dealer
will replace
those cards
with new ones
for you. Betting
takes place
in the same
format with
the person
after the
big blind
always first
to act and
game play
is in a clockwise
motion.
After the
first betting
round is complete,
a draw will
take place
and players
will have
the option
to draw or “Stand Pat”. Standing Pat means
you do not want to select and cards to discard. In the case of multiple draws
a player who stands pat will still have the option to draw on the second round.
Five Steps
to Playing
Draw Poker

2. Betting round #1
3. Draw
4. Betting round #2
5. Showdown – Best 5 card poker hand wins. In the event of
a tie, the pot will be chopped
Other
Draw Poker
Games
As of
late, draw
games are
gaining more
attention
online and
which have
allowed the
rooms to add
other variations
to the basic
5 Card Draw.
These include
2 – 7
Triple Low Draw and Badugi Poker
2-7 (Deuce
to Seven)
Triple Draw
2 – 7 Triple Draw is played just like 5 Card Draw except in this game
the best low poker hand wins. There are a few other rules that players should
take note first before diving into this game. 2 – 7 Triple Draw allows
you to draw from 0 – 5 cards each round ( total of 3 draws available),
and straights and flushes do not count towards hand strength or weakness. Players
should also note that A’s will also count as high. The best possible hand
a player could have is 7, 5, 4, 3, 2

Playing Badugi
Poker
Badugi Poker
has recently
surfaced in
the online
poker world,
with sites
like Carbon
Poker and
Pokerstars
supporting
real money
Badugi Poker
games. Badugi
is also a
draw game
and is played
similar to
2 – 7
in that the
lowest hand
wins the pot
however there
are a few
amendments
to the rules
that players
should be
aware of.
The best possible
hand in this
game is the
four lowest
cards of different
suits and
is referred
to as Badugi.
There are
three draws
in Badugi
and players
can choose
to discard
0 – 4
cards in each
round as well
as four betting
rounds. Once
the final
betting round
has taken
place, the
player with
the best hand
wins. Straights
are not taken
into account
in Badugi
Poker, and
the object
as we mentioned
is to have
the best low
card hand
with four
different
suits. If
none of the
payers have
this hand
then the best
low hand using
3 or two cards
will be awarded
the pot. Opposite
to 2 – 7
Triple Draw,
all A’s
in Badugi
are counted
as low.
